Many people believe the ice cream cone was invented at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. While the fair helped make cones wildly popular across the United States, edible ice cream cones actually existed before then. In fact, Italian immigrant Italo Marchiony received a U.S. patent for an edible ice cream cone mold in 1903, and recipes for cone-shaped wafers filled with cream date back to 1888. The World's Fair was the moment the ice cream cone went mainstream.
