20/20 Vision Isn't "Perfect" Vision

20/20 vision does not mean your eyesight is perfect. It means that from 20 feet away, you can see what a person with typical vision can see from 20 feet away. Some people can see even sharper than that. For example, 20/13 vision means you can see details from 20 feet away that the average person would need to be about 13 feet away to see clearly.

Mini Facts

1

If you have 20/30 vision, it means your vision is worse than average. From 20 feet away, you can read letters most people see from 30 feet.

2

Some children lose their 20/20 vision around 8-9 years old.

3

Outside of the United States, eyecare providers measure vision in meters instead of feet. Instead of 20/20 vision, they would measure it as 6/6.
